Period One (1a-2c)

Language goals:

1. Words & expressions: have, soccer ball, tennis, racket, tennis racket, ping–pong, volleyball, basketball, bat, does, doesn’t (P25)

2. Key sentences: Do you have a ping–pong ball? Yes, I do. No, I don’t. (P25)

Does he/she have a…? Yes, he/she does.  No, he/she doesn’t.

Ability goals:

Enable the students to understand and talk about ownership.

Emotion & attitude goals:

Enable the students to form positive attitude toward sports collection and love sports, keep healthy and learn to make suggestions politely.

Strategy goals:

To understand the target language by reading pictures, listening, pair work, survey and report (group work).

Teaching key points:

Talk about ownership

Do you have a TV? Yes, I do. No, I don’t.

Do they have a computer? Yes, they do. No, they don’t.

Does he/she have a tennis racket? Yes, he/she does. No, he/she doesn’t.

Teaching difficult points:

Enable the students to use Do and Does correctly.

 

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Greeting and Warming up (Before class: Ss watch a short movie “Let’s play”.)

T: Good morning! How are you today?

  I have a friend. Her name is Mary. (Show a picture.) Hello, Mary!

  Do you have a friend?  (Ss: Yes)

  Why not say hello to your friend?

Step 2  Presentation

T: Good! I have a friend. This is my friend, Mary.

Show another picture and say: And she has a ball. It’s a baseball. I don’t have a baseball. But I have a basketball. (Show a real basketball) Write “basketball” on the Bb, read it, Ss repeat. Elicit the names of balls like this.

Step 3 Memory challenge

Show pictures quickly on the screen and ask Ss to remember them, and then ask them to tell the names without the pictures. Start the competition among the four groups.

Step 4 Listening and Speaking

1. Ask the students to look at the picture on Page 25.

T: What can you see in the picture? (What color? Where?)

Ask Ss to talk about the pictures with the sentences they have learned.

Ask the students to match the words with the things in the picture. (1a)

Ss tell the answers as part of the competition

2. Play the recording. Ss listen to conversation and circle the words they hear. (1b) And then check the answers.

(Keys: ping–pong bat and computer game.)

3. Ask Ss to imitate the tape script. Invite two Ss to practice the conversation in 1c on P25. And then ask Ss to practice the conversation in pairs and remind them to use various objects from the illustration. As students practice, move around the classroom to check progress and help with pronunciation.

S1: Do you have a ping-pong ball?

S2: Yes, I do.

S1: Do you have a ping-pong bat?

S2: No, I don’t.

Step 5 Presentation and pair work

Invite several pairs to act out their conversation:

S1: Do you have a ping-pong ball?

S2: Yes, I do.

Ask S3: Does he have a ping-pong ball?

Help to answer: Yes, he does. / No, he doesn’t.

Show pictures and practice in pairs: Does he/she have a…?

Do they have a…? Yes, they do. / No, they don’t.

Step 6 Listening and Reading

1. Play the recording for the first time.

T: Listen to the tape. Ss only listen and tell what they hear(words or sentences).

2. Play the recording for the second time. Ss listen and do 2a.

T: You’ll hear the same conversation again in the picture 2a. This time please listen for the names in the pictures, and then number the pictures (1-4).

After that ask a few students to say out their answers in 2a.

S1: The answers are 3, 1, 4, 2.

S2: Number the pictures: 3, 1, 4, 2.

3. Play the recording for the third time.

T: You will hear the conversations for the third time. You are to match the people from activity 2a to the balls in the recording. Please write the numbers from the pictures in 2a next to the correct balls in 2b.

4. Check the answer.

S3: The answers are 3, 2, 1, 4.

S4: They are 3, 2, 1, 4.

After doing listening, Ss read and imitate the tapescript.

Step 7 Group work: Survey and Report

Show the picture in 2c on P26. Divide Ss into groups of 4, give them 5 minutes to fill in the chart and then ask several groups to give a report.

S1 interviews by asking “Do you have a…?”  S2 writes down the answers. S3 writes a report. S4 gives a report.

Step 8 Summary: Grammar Focus

Let the students sum up what we have learned during this class. Look at the grammar focus:

Do you have a TV? Yes, I do. No, I don’t.

Do they have a computer? Yes, they do. No, they don’t.

Does he have a tennis racket? Yes, he does. No, he doesn’t.

Does she have a soccer ball? Yes, she does. No, she doesn’t.

Does he have a ping-pong ball? Yes, he does. No, he doesn’t.

Step 8 Chant

I have, you have, they have.

She has, he has, Mary has.

Do I, do you, do they.

Does she, does he, does Mary.

I don’t, you don’t, they don’t.

She doesn’t, he doesn’t, Mary doesn’t.

Step 9 Homework

1. Listen and imitate the tape script after class.

2. Review the names of the balls and Grammar Focus before doing your exercises.

3. Finish Exercise Book(2) 1 in this unit.

 

课后小结和反思:

这次研讨课,教研员章宁老师和这么多兄弟学校的老师来听课、观课,着实让我很紧张,但同时也令我受益匪浅。各位老师中肯的点评和建议,又使我有所进步和成长。

这节课主要是学习球类名称,并初次接触行为动词have, 要掌握它的肯定、否定、疑问三式。课堂上,小组竞赛激发了学生的热情,促使学生积极回答问题;充分利用图片和听力材料,加强学生看、听、读、说能力;每个环节过渡自然,让学生做之前自己先进行示范,引导他们更有效地参与课堂活动。不过也存在了很多问题:如时间上的分配还可以合理紧凑些,留出更多的时间让学生做group work;应该再放缓些语速,让学生听清听懂每个指令性语言,同时应注重学生的语音语调的训练,个别学生有拖音现象,有些学生一般疑问句的升调读得还不是很到位;课堂上的评价性语言还可以再丰富些,这样能够激发学生更大的学习英语的积极性,同时要让小组竞争起到更为有效的作用,善始善终,贯穿整堂课,更好地为教与学服务。
