Stages/Timing

Activities

Methodology

Warm-up&

 Lead-in

1.       Greetings.

2.       Free talk about where they went on vacation.

3.       Ask where they will visit in the future.

This step helps students know the new teacher better and get ready for learning.

Presentation, Practice&

Competition

1.       Make them know how to draw a mind-map according to a certain article.

2.       Present two examples to make them get familiar with a mind-map.

3.       Show them a summary about the use of a mind-map.

3.  The students will have a competition. Divide class into five groups and tell them they’re going to have a competition.

First, everyone should draw a mind-map. Then group members discuss and choose the best mind-map of the group. Show and introduce it in front of the class.  At last, the class discuss which mind-map is the best one. Make comments.

4.  Announce the winner.

Present students some familiar guides to arouse their interests of drawing a mind-map and reduce the difficulty of reading. Use a summary to make them clearly know how to draw a mind-map

The competition makes the practice more interesting.  The students learn to draw a mind-map and cooperate with others. It’s also an assessment which helps the teacher know whether they can draw a mind-map or not.

Making comments helps students know how to draw a good mind-map.

Presentation, listening&

retelling

1.       Show a picture of watertown to elicit some phrases.

2.       Listen and check if the phrases are mentioned.

3.       Draw a mind-map of 3a.

4.       Check the answers.

5.       Retell 3a in groups of three. Each one only talks about one part.

.

A picture is a thousand words. Arouse students’ interests to say something of the picture.

The form of group work makes students retell the article in groups. They can finish the task with the team work.

Further practice

The students will try to draw a mind-map of a guide to Daishan.

Combine the skills that students just have learned with their real life. In this way, they will keep interested in learning.

Homework

Write a guide to their city according to the mind-map they just have drawn.

Homework offers students more practice of writing the guide which helps them consolidate what they’ve learned in this class.
