Material: Go For It! (Grade7B, 45 minutes)

Instructor: Ren Youyin( 任优寅)

Venue: High-Tech Zone Foreign Language School, Ningbo

Time: 10:00 a.m. ~ 10:45 a.m.

Date: May. 12, 2010.

 

Teaching aims

1. Knowledge objects.

(1) Learn the words of the food

(2) Get Ss to know how to ask about their likes

---What kind of noodles would you like?  ---I’d like …… noodles.

---What size bowl of noodles would you like?

---I’d like a small/medium/large bowl of noodles.

2. Ability objects.

The students are able to make new conversations by using the target language. They can improve thier ability of speaking, listening, reading, and studying by themselves.

Teaching key points

(1) Vocabulary: would, I’d, noodle, beef, mutton, cabbage, potato, special, juice, drink, bowl, size

(2) Target Language:

---What kind of noodles would you like?  ---I’d like …… noodles.

---What size bowl of noodles would you like?

---I’d like a small/medium/large bowl of noodles.

Teaching difficulties

Teach students to put the knowledge into use. E.g. beef and tomato noodles, we need to pay attention to tomato with no “es”.

Teaching method

Task-based teaching method & task-based learning method are used in this lesson.

Teaching aids

1. A recorder.         2. CAI.

Teaching procedures:

Step I. Greetings and warming-up.

T: Good afternoon, boys and girls! Today we have new teachers here. Let’s clap our hands to welcome them. (Hands clapping!) I hope you will have a good time today. Are you ready for the class?

S: Yes.

T: Now, here are many pictures, what can you see? What do you like?

S: I can see…. I like….

T: Can you guess what I like?

S: Do you like …?

T: Yes/no, I like some noodles.

Step II. Lead- in and vocabulary teaching

T: I like eating noodles, and I like cooking, too. You know I am a teacher, and I also want to be a cook, a super cook. Do you know “super? It means “great”. I want to have a restaurant, you can see some people eating there.

1.     T: What do I have in my restaurant?

S: fruits, meat, vegetables and other food.

Teacher helps ss to read the new words and review the words we have learned.

2. Play a game: quick eye (consolidate the new words)

Step III. Find their homes

T: Have you got your pieces of paper? I get one, what is it?

S: Pork.

T: Where should I put it? Yeah, it belongs to meat. Would you please come here and put your paper on the blackboard?

 Discussion: after ss put different kinds of meat and vegetables on the blackboard, teacher and ss check them, and then give ss 1 minute to discuss in groups: what other meat and vegetables do you know?

 After discussion, ss write them on the blackboard.

T: Now, there are many vegetables and meat in my restaurant. Today I am a cook, I want to cook noodles for you. What would you like on your noodles? For example, I like beef and carrots in my noodles, so I like beef and carrot noodles. What about you?

Step IV. Pair work: first give role models

---What kind of noodles would you like?

---I like mutton and cabbage noodles.

T: Now talk with your partner, please get to work.

Step V. Consolidation

T: In my restaurant, I have three specials, do you know special? Special 1 is beef and tomato noodles. Here we need to pay attention to tomato with no “es”. What kind of noodles would you like? How many noodles can you eat? Can we say one noodle? Two noodles?

S: No.

T: So what should we say?

S: A bowl of noodles.

T: Great! Read the word “bowl”, and I have 3 sizes of bowls, small, medium and large.

Step VI. Match, Listen Check

Step VII. Group work

Now, more and more people come to my restaurant, and I am very busy. Would you please help me? Would you like to be my waiters and waitresses? Please work in a group of four. One of you is a waiter, the others are customers.

Step VIII. Homework

1.     Make a survey and fill in the blank.

2.     Listen and read the text.

3.     Make noodles for your parents.
