《Skills and Steps on Cloze Tests》课例赏析

Teaching Objectives:
1. Students will know more information about the cloze tests: the requirements of cloze tests in senior high school entrance exam.
2.
Students will review and learn skills and steps of doing cloze tests.
3.
Students will practice skills and steps by doing some cloze tests.

4. Students will have a chance to design their own cloze tests.

Teaching Key Points: Enable students to grasp skills and steps of doing cloze tests.

Teaching Difficult Points: Enable less developed students to grasp all the skills and steps of doing cloze tests.

Teaching Procedures:

Step 1 Warming-up

1.Ask students what they think is the most difficult part in a test. Then present the topic: Cloze Tests.

2.Show three pictures of Atom Astro Boy one by one which is much clearer than the last picture. Make students guess what it is. Let students know that doing the cloze tests is just like guessing the pictures.

Step 2 Presentation

1. Give a definition of the cloze test both in English and in Chinese.

2. Teach students the skills of doing cloze tests.

1) Ask two or three students to share their own ideas about the skills of doing cloze tests.

2) Let students discuss in groups of 4 about the ways to make right choices. See2013英语考试说明》P64.

3) Give students some exercises from the cloze test and help students find out the skills of doing cloze tests: Context, Logic, Collocation, Grammar, and Background.

4) Help students summarize the five skills of doing cloze tests.

5) Do some exercises with students and get students to find out what skills they use. Let students know they will use not only one skill each time, maybe two or more skills.

3. Teach students the steps of doing cloze tests.

1) Ask three or four students how they usually do cloze tests.

2) Present the three steps of doing cloze tests: Read through, Use skills, Re-read and check. Emphasize the importance of step 3.

Step 3 Practice

1. Ask students to finish the cloze tests in the paper. Make students remember three steps.

2. Get students to check answers by discussing in groups. Make sure the group leader will get ready to give a report about two points.

1) the options that whey have disagreements at first

2) the ways how they solve the problems

3. Give students some tips on cloze tests.

4. Give students a passage and ask students to design a cloze test.

   Pay attention to give an example and some tips.

(Maybe we cant finish this step, so this step will be homework.)

Step 4 Homework

Level A: Make 15 blanks in the passage.

Level B: Make 15 blanks in the passage and give options.

 

反思与评价

    一、本课的设计思路

本课主题是中考英语复习系列之完形填空。本课的教学重点是帮助学生掌握常见的完形填空的解题技巧与解题步骤,因此,本课设计分为skillssteps两部分,在每部分讲解时都体现“学生固有知识呈现——教师帮助学生归纳——学生运用新知解题——同伴互助答疑”四环节。最后教师通过让学生出题的方式,让学生感知命题者的心境,同时也是对学生运用本课所学完形填空技巧的拓展运用。

在本课中,老师只是起到引领的作用,要求学生通过多次小组互助活动,发现问题,解决问题,师生共同探索“自主式”初中英语复习之路。

    二、本课的亮点

    1、本课凸显自主教育教学改革的特色,结合教师引领、同伴互助、交流归纳、资源整合、实战提升等策略的应用,充分发挥了学生在复习课堂中的主体地位。

2、本课设计脉络清晰,环环相扣,skillssteps两部分相辅相成。每一部分知识的输入都通过“学生固有知识呈现——教师帮助学生归纳”两环节呈现。且通过“学生运用新知解题——同伴互助答疑”对知识进行有效的输出。

3、本课重难点把握准确,通过本课的传授,学生多数能有效掌握本课所讲的5个技巧与3个解题步骤。

4、本课最后一环节让学生出一份完形填空题是最大的亮点,设计新颖,具有很强的操作性。

三、本课的不足

1、教师的教学艺术

教师的课堂用语还需做到“规范”二字。如“the step three”“4 students a group”都是不准确的。为了确保课堂用语的准确和规范,说什么、怎么说都是需要课前推敲好,做好语言的预设。

2、教学细节与教学艺术

课文的标题和板书还显得较随意,没有做好课前的设计。建议可做如下设计:

3、小组活动设计

既然本课是“自主复习”课,那么学生的小组活动设计显得尤为重要。

1)小组的座位设置建议设计成面对面形式,这样学生更有归属感和安全感。

2)小组的成员需明确分工。

4、教学环节设计

1)完形填空技巧部分课程节奏可以加快,腾出时间进行最后一个出题环节。

2)课堂容量太大。完形填空和出题的设计意图都是让学生运用所学的5个技巧。完形和出题可以二选一;或将完形作为课后作业,直接进行最后一个出题环节。
